We are looking for vital feedback from young people in Cumnock to inform the delivery of new build affordable housing at Cairn Road (George McTurk Court), Cumnock. Particularly, community benefits which could be provided by a developer.
To do this, we want to understand:
What makes our places good just now?
What could be better?
Thoughts on the proposed development.
What targeted community benefit opportunities would best address wider community needs?.
The Place Standard
This survey is framed against the Place Standard to understand the importance of a place in your everyday life under the themes of access to:
Connectivity
safe and pleasant routes without relying on cars or public transport
affordable, reliable public transport options
traffic and parking arrangements
Spaces
natural spaces, play/recreational areas
attractive street spaces to meet people
Community
facilities and services, such as schools, doctors, shops, libraries, social care and community groups
local economy with a mix of businesses
access to an attractive mix of housing tenures
Stewardship
Feeling of having control and belong to a safe, well-maintained community.
The Project
The site is a wedge-shaped parcel of land bounded by Glaisnock Road to the north-east, Cumnock New Cemetery to the south-east, Cairn Court to the south-west and Cairn Road to the north-west.
Based on the East Ayrshire Housing Need and Demand Analysis, the concept design is for an older and ambulant focused design with urban landscaping delivering innovative, community-focused public spaces. Proposals being readied for planning are for 63 homes, including a mix of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom house-types and 2-bedroom flats across four blocks.
In our survey we are seeking general feedback about the proposals for Cairn Road (George McTurk Court), Cumnock.
Further information on the project is available in the useful documents widget.
Community Benefits
When procuring a contractor to develop the site, we are committed to maximising Community Benefits with the aim of building a range of economic, social and environmental conditions into the delivery of Council Contracts.
We require Community Benefits across four areas:
Employment and Skills - encouraging access to quality sustainable employment, assisting unemployed people and providing training opportunities
Community Focused Requirements – learning and knowledge exchange opportunities by experienced professionals through community projects, work experience and community engagements
Supply Chain Development – promote supply chain opportunities for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
Social Enterprise – working with social enterprises to deliver local social outcomes across various industries (recycling, community transport, landscaping, catering, employment training and event management etc.)
Our surveys include a ranking exercise of related activities under these headings and give developers the opportunity to detail any specific local activities to be aware of.
