Even during the winter, vegetation can be tinder dry and catch light easily. It only takes seconds for a camp fire to get wildly out of control. Lighting a fire on the ground is forbidden to protect fragile soil which can scorch and remain hot long after you've put your fire out. Under our bylaws you can 

• use a purpose built camping firepit which is raised above the ground. Make sure it cools properly and take it all home with you.
• use a camping gas stove and take empty canisters home with you

Call 999 immediately and report your location - look out for location codes on signage around the loch or use What3words app to give emergency services your location

Be aware the water can be very cold, and currents are strong:

• check windspeed and direction - NEVER paddleboard or kayak in an offshore wind
• check out the location of safety equipment - there are emergency stations around the loch
• check out the location of the defibrillator
• make sure you have suitable equipment - lifejackets, wetsuits, adequate clothing to warm you afterwards
• avoid going on your own and tell someone what you're planning

Under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code wild camping is defined as parking your car in a designated area and camping away from houses and the public highway,
