International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960.
It is a day to symbolise the global effort we all must make to eradicate racism from the world. To mark this day, the working group for this event has invited our networks to a workshop day to discuss ideas and get directly involved with how we organise this event.

Black History Month 2026
Black History Month is marked every year in October and it gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.
People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have been a fundamental part of Scottish and UK history for centuries.
The first Black History Month in the UK took place in 1987, the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean and has continued since.
