On 27 February 2025 East Ayrshire Council agreed to extend the use of the Mauchline Automatic Public Toilet (APC) situated in the Loudoun Street Car Park for a further year.
In exploring an alternative solution for when the extended contract for the public toilet ends in 2026 and we invited suggestions from the community and the businesses within Mauchline.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey regarding the future of the public convenience in Mauchline, the results of this consultation can be viewed below.
Mauchline Public Convenience: Survey Return
The primary purpose of this survey was to explore alternative solutions for providing a public toilet facility, especially given the significant costs and low usage of the current site.
We received 50 responses, with the community feedback broken down as follows:
42 responses advocated for the facility to be maintained or expanded.
4 responses preferred the facility be removed.
4 responses were neutral.
Unfortunately, a like-for-like replacement or expansion is not a financially viable option at this time. While some residents suggested that local businesses could partner with East Ayrshire Council, the businesses who responded to the survey indicated they are not in a position to accommodate this. At this stage there have been no actionable suggestions which colleagues can take forward.
East Ayrshire Council are still open to considering partnerships with local businesses. If your business is interested in exploring a potential solution, please contact waste@east-ayrshire.gov.uk
