As part of our wider programme of investment in educational facilities throughout East Ayrshire we're about to embark on a major development of the Doon Campus site. in Dalmellington. As part of this process we're now running this public consultation to ask for the views of users and and the wider community.

What is proposed?

The proposed development comprises a comprehensive programme of extension and refurbishment, to enhance and modernise existing facilities.

Central to the project is the construction of a new extension to allow for the demolition of an existing wing of the building that has reached the end of it's functional life.

This new extension will provide both primary and secondary accommodation and will also incorporate purpose-built facilities to support pupils with additional support needs, including those with complex requirements. This way we can provide inclusive, high-quality learning environments for everyone.

Refurbishment

Alongside the new build element, the existing campus buildings will also be refurbished, improving the building fabric to extend longevity, efficiency and overall condition. This will cover both the remaining school accommodation and the adjoining Doon Valley Leisure Centre.

Changing village

As part of these works, a new changing village for the swimming pool will also be created to significantly improve accessibility, user experience and compliance with modern standards.

Car parking

The proposals also include a range of external improvements aimed at enhancing the overall campus environment. These will comprise the provision of new car parking facilities and the development of upgraded outdoor play areas for pupils, supporting both recreational and educational activities.

Together, the extension, refurbishment and external works will create a modern, inclusive and sustainable campus that meets the current and future needs of the community.

The planning process

We have developed design proposals for the proposed extension and refurbishment of Doon Campus, incorporating Doon Valley Leisure Centre. Before an application for planning is submitted, we are inviting residents and interested parties to look at and comment on the proposals.

Events

We're holding two public consultation drop in events in the library at Doon Academy on:

  • Monday 11 May 2026 from 4pm until 7pm
  • Thursday 4 June 2026 from 4pm until 7pm
